Undergrad What's special about 3 dimensions?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think a line drawn using chalk is 1D. Cos no matter how thin you draw it, it will still have Length, breadth and height. Which probably means that unless the object is hypothetical, a 1D object is impossible. I can't imagine a 1D object, its impossible.- Tan PK

Undergrad Anti-Bonding/Bonding Molecular Orbitals
Thanks so much guys, I had a hard time reading university reference books (Chemistry : The Central Science, Pearson) and I didn't understand what the MOs were all about. By the way, can MOs be depicted collectively in a diagram? And are they related to sigma and pi bonds? To alxm : Yea, I...- Tan PK

Graduate Loss of heat from magma of Earth
Hmm. I may be wrong, but i think that a planet with maybe 5 arbitrary units of solid in its interior would rotate faster/revolve faster than a planet with 1 arbitrary units of liquid. And would the solid adsorb more to the inner surface of the planet shell? Like if you spin a bucket with...- Tan PK

Undergrad Anti-Bonding/Bonding Molecular Orbitals
To Borek: Are MOs linked to sigma and pi orbitals? And if i wanted to depict all these MOs in a diagram, what would it look like? Is the definition of a node "Region where no electrons can be found"? Cos i learned that orbitals are just regions where there is a high chance of finding...- Tan PK

Graduate Loss of heat from magma of Earth
If I were to assume that in a theoretical planet similar to Earth, and the significant solidification of magma was consistent through the whole body, what difference would it make? Its something like a hollow steel ball with a more fluid interior versus another similar hollow steel ball with a...- Tan PK

Graduate Loss of heat from magma of Earth
If the Earth's magma lost enough heat for it to solidify to a noticeable extent(permanent change, assuming irreversible), how would it affect its rotation about Earth's own axis and revolution around the Sun?- Tan PK

Undergrad Anti-Bonding/Bonding Molecular Orbitals
Can someone explain to me, what are the factors/reasons that when certain atoms bond together, they form anti-Bonding or Bonding Molecular Orbitals? I am confused, and this is not in my syllabus(equivalent to Grade 12). P.S. It would be helpful if you included wavefunctions as well.- Tan PK
