Math Can I call myself a mathematician if I am a Maths tutor?
Just trying to convey to others that I am serious about maths. I do tutor some difficult mathematics subjects. But seems like that is not a good enough reason to be labeled as a mathematician?- tgt

Math Can I call myself a mathematician if I am a Maths tutor?
So I have been tutoring maths for almost 10 years now and tutor a wide range of students including students doing Olympiad problems to upper undergraduate level students. I have a Master Degree in mathematics. Can I call myself a mathematician?- tgt

How to Calculate Li+ Ion Concentration in Saturated Li3PO4 Solution?
Homework Statement Lithium phosphate, Li3PO4, has a solubility product Ksp = 2.37 × 10-4. What is the concentration of Li+ ions in a saturated solution of Li3PO4? The Attempt at a Solution What is the initial concentration of Lithium? Or does it matter? I got 0.163 M but answer says 0.0544 M...- tgt

Advice to how to be better at mathematics
I'd disagree. Look at Ramanujan. Didn't know much about proofs, tremendous "mathematical background". Shows Mathematics is "bigger" than just the technical constructs smart people have put in place. Don't get me wrong, proofs are very important and with a mere human brain, we need proofs in...- tgt

Advice to how to be better at mathematics
From my experience, even if you were very pedantic with reading and understanding proofs, without a solid "mathematical background" and mathematical intuition, it doesn't leave a large imprint in your brain. To me the mathematical background and intuition is gotten from doing lots and lots of...- tgt

Advice to how to be better at mathematics
These are good advice but are more directed at the older student. Also what about some general principles?- tgt

Advice to how to be better at mathematics
Yes, I know the approach taken by students are different. But what are some over arching goals that students should aim for (apart from the obvious of aiming for the highest marks). I am looking for general advice that everyone can take on board - as goals to achieve.- tgt

Advice to how to be better at mathematics
What general advice would you give to a keen young (upper high school and undergrads) student of mathematics? I would say most important is to develop your mathematical intuition by doing and reading as many examples and problems as possible. Anything else?- tgt

Undergrad Is this a fair description of mathematics (in one sentence)?
I only wish someone had written something like this when I was an undergraduate. I loved maths but didn't know what I was studying.- tgt

But Godel constructed very 'unnatural' scenarios. I'd be much more impressed if there was a 'genuine' maths problem that falls into Godel's category.- tgt

I've studied mathematical logic before and many of the ideas described came from there. You seem to come from an applied maths background?- tgt

Undergrad Is this a fair description of mathematics (in one sentence)?
Many people have asked me the question 'what is mathematics'? Even I asked this question seriously in first year uni and read many books on the subject. I've now studied maths for over a decade at uni and now have a much better idea of what mathematics is about. I just want to give a non biased...- tgt
