I need an easy explanation for a flow formula

In order to calculate flow rate when using a differential head pressure device, the simplified formula is Flow = (coefficient)(square root of the differential pressure) My question is why? Why the square root, can some explain this to me please? Thanks

    Shooting or dropping a projectile

In a vacuum, if you horizontally launch a projectile or drop it from rest it will hit the ground at the same time. What about in reallity? IF you shoot a bullet horizontally or drop a bullet from the same height, which will hit the ground first and why?

Repose Angle: Why Doesn't Matter Float?

I am also having difficultly following the question. If the object is initially not moving how can it be also moveing at a constant speed? Speed is 0. How can it be on a frictionless incline (mentioned air frictionless) and be suspended? I need help in visuallizing this. Sorry

How Long Would It Take to Drain a Cubic Mile of Water Through a One Square Inch Opening?

mistake I think i made a mistake in that when I do your calculations I get 21005.32 years. Is this what you get?

How Long Would It Take to Drain a Cubic Mile of Water Through a One Square Inch Opening?

this is fairly close to what I estimated in terms of ballparks. I came up with 2312 years and some change, in running your formula I got right at 2100 years.

How Long Would It Take to Drain a Cubic Mile of Water Through a One Square Inch Opening?

Well barring evaporation, I used Toricelli's theorem. Velocity = the sqr root of 2gh. THis gave me the exit velocity at the opening. Realizing that flow rate is equal to velocity time area of the opening, we can solve for time to drain a certain amount of the tank. The problem is h (height of...

How Long Would It Take to Drain a Cubic Mile of Water Through a One Square Inch Opening?

Neglecting evaporation, if you have a cubic mile of water (1 mile by 1 mile by 1 mile) how long would it take to drain if at the bottom there is a one square inch opening? I am verifying my answer with some really bright people. You
