Resulting force after two objects collide

Homework Statement The car A has a weight of 4000 lb and is traveling to the right at 3 ft/s. Meanwhile a 2000 lb car B is traveling at 6 ft/s to the left. If the cars crash head-on, and at a time instant during the crash the impact force on A is 900 lb to the left, what is the magnitude and...

Does density affect the buoyancy of submerged objects?

I believe so, thanks for your help! Sometimes I feel completely certain I know how to solve a problem in physics only to be totally wrong so I appreciate your confirmation that I was going in the right direction :)

Does density affect the buoyancy of submerged objects?

Hi haruspex! Sorry, I'm not sure that I understand. Borderline case as in...?

Does density affect the buoyancy of submerged objects?

Well, Fb is dependent on mass of the fluid and g. Mass=ρV.. So as density of the fluid increases, so does its mass and therefore, its buoyancy? But if it decreases, the mass decreases as well so Fg will be even greater than Fb and the object will definitely go downward...? Is this correct? Btw...

Does density affect the buoyancy of submerged objects?

Homework Statement We fully submerge an irregular 3 kg lump of material in a certain fluid. The fluid that would have been in the space now occupied by the lump has a mass of 2 kg. a) When we release the lump, does it move upward, downward, or remain in place? b) If we next fully submerge it in...

LinAlg: Determine the value(s) of h such that the matrix....

Got it! For some reason, I was under the impression that the bottom row could not be [0 * 0] (as * represents a non-zero number), but that is totally wrong because such a row would still make a system consistent and is quite common, actually since * would be the pivot position. And [0 0 0] is...

LinAlg: Determine the value(s) of h such that the matrix....

Oh man, sorry people. I was confusing two different problems as I typed this one out... been a long, fartbrain day. What I meant to say is: 1 4 -2 3 h -6 R1(-3)+R2= 1 4 -2 0 h-12 0 After seeing both responses, I think I might be missing something very fundamental and obvious...

LinAlg: Determine the value(s) of h such that the matrix....

Homework Statement Determine the values of h such that the matrix is the augmented matrix of a consistent linear system. 1 4 -2 3 h -6 The attempt at a solution The answer I got differs from the back of the book. I tried solving it by adding R1(4) to R2 1 3 -2 -4 h 8 becomes 1...

How Can I Overcome My Fear of Physics and Succeed in Understanding It?

Hi Suman! Yes, I am. Just switched over to engineering actually. Like I said, I'm going all in this time! It's reallllly important that I understand physics, haha.

How Can I Overcome My Fear of Physics and Succeed in Understanding It?

Hey there, fellow physics enthusiasts. I'm here mainly because I've always been greatly intimidated by physics and used to give up before I tried, but the few times I tried even a little, it was extremely rewarding and I became slightly obsessed. I've decided to go all in this time and seek help...
