News Why Are Riots Escalating in London?
Are you talking about social welfare? where do you think people get this "sense of civic responsibility" from? And what stops people from rioting and looting in the first place - I mean, human beings are evolutionarily hunter gatherers. We take stuff. The police don't keep people in check...- vertices

News Was Killing Osama Legal? European Debate
We only went and "violated the sovereignty of their nation by performing this raid". No biggie. Can you see nothing wrong with this? Well it turns out the SEALS faced minimal resistance from OBL - they could have taken him alive. In civilised countries we afford everyone (even sick monsters...- vertices

News Are sanctions and condemnation effective in curbing unruly nations?
When they're imposed against a brutal regime, they actually empower the regime whilst making its citizens suffer - take Iraq for example: millions of children died as a result of UN sanctions whilst Sadam Hussein hold of power was immeasurably strengthened. They did however work in South...- vertices

Graduate What is going on with the indices
If: \delta x^\mu = a^\mu +w^{\mu}_{\nu}x^\nu How would we go about working out \delta_1 \delta_2 x^\mu This is apparently equal to: (w^{\mu}_{1}_\nu a^{\nu}_{2} + w^{\mu}_{1}_\lambda w^{\lambda}_{2}_\nu) x^\nu but I can't understand what is going on with the indices - can someone help me...- vertices

What ya' think of Lady Gaga in meat?
Women (or people in general) should be free to do whatever they like as long their actions don't harm others (or themselves). But feminists would argue that a statistically signficant number of porn stars do go on to have serious mental health issues, and more significantly, their work...- vertices

News Could Significantly Upping Defense Spending Help the Economy Recover?
Any stimulus package should address glaringly obvious long term problems eg. trade deficits and crumbling infrastructure. In particular, investment in infrastructure has a very high long-term multiplier and such investments will increase the standard of living for future generations. Now...- vertices

What ya' think of Lady Gaga in meat?
nismaratwork: I shouldn't have to tell you why porn is degrading to women - its obvious. When you have a situation where a man (or a group of men) 'enter' a woman's most personal and private space, for other men to ogle and drool at, this is clearly an example of degradation. The fact porn...- vertices

What ya' think of Lady Gaga in meat?
Well, take female porn 'actresses' - who you'd also consider "sexually aggressive" - they partake in a disgraceful industry, which is basically about the humiliation and degradation of women. LG by wearing 'meat' depicts herself a sex object (ie. meat), not a human being. This isn't 'art' -...- vertices

What ya' think of Lady Gaga in meat?
The fame monster makes great gym music(!) As an aside, am I the only person to find some her lyrics a bit eye brow raising (eg. 'I'll get him hard show him what I got' or 'I want to take a ride on your disco stick'). I get her message that people should be proud to be different but it...- vertices

News US judge cites Sharia Law in decision
Yes indeed, equal protection under the law is of crucial importance to any functioning democracy. You simply cannot have parallel systems of laws for certain groups of people. A 'shariah-type relationship' is quintessentially sexist - are you saying shariah laws to do with marriage should...- vertices

News The Grassroots movement , and the Tea Party
Is there any evidence for this? My understanding is that it depends on who is taxed. Rich people tend to hoard their wealth (they are, on the whole, pretty tight fisted and never spend anything) - in economics speak, tax cuts for the rich has a very low multiplier (google it) which does very...- vertices

News The Grassroots movement , and the Tea Party
That's exactly how I am using it. Let me ask you a question: If you advocate truly free markets what would you do when participants use force themselves to restrict the liberty of other participants? Well, monopolies are by definition, anti-free markets, no? I guess I do have a not-so...- vertices
