    Silly question about series batteries

Batteries used in commercial packs are usually matched in capacity for series connected. If one cell depletes first it can be damaged by reverse charging. Parallel packs are matched for both voltage and capacity. If one cell depletes first it becomes a parasite limiting the voltage in that...

Understanding Fog Formation and Dew Point from Wikipedia

A demonstration of cloud formation I would give involved adding a small amount of water to an empty 2 liter pop bottle, placing it loosely capped in the freezer. Tightening cap on removal and letting it come to room temp, it is under pressure at 100% humidity. When cap is opened you get a cloud...

Optical qualities of prism sheet and glass substrate (LCD screen)

I agree with most of these studies... As an old TV repairman, I recall that there was an on going balancing act between scan rate (29.5 fps US NTSC, 50 fps PAL Europe) and image retension of the phosphor. Short retension ment flicker and retnal fatigue, long retension ment cometing of a...

Undergrad Static Electricity -- How best to generate it and use it?

From lexico.com A windlass for raising and lowering a bucket in a well. Origin. Late Middle English; earliest use found in Promptorium Parvulorum. Word of the day. I use the term for pretty much any crank or pulley operated electrostatic machine that rotates. I maintained electrostatic paint...

Undergrad Static Electricity -- How best to generate it and use it?

My bad, we would use Whimshurst and windless (referring to any crank driven pulley like an old water well) interchangeably. Back to first stage of dierod charges stationary induction plates instead of Leyden Jars. This maintains high constant voltage on induction plates and give improved...

Undergrad Static Electricity -- How best to generate it and use it?

The electrophorus device was used in my 7th grade class in '64. It consisted of a layer of solid sulfur about 3/16 thick on a cast iron plate and aluminum touch plate. There are a number of devices currently being used industrially that use permanently charged (electret) plastics, the most...

Design a Venturi Pump with Compressed Air and Water: Feasibility & Parameters

A venturi is mainly used where efficiency is not the priority. Water venturi is used at the bottom of a well to assist the lift to avoid cavitation when the lift is more than 33 feet, kind of a push plus pull setup. Placing the venturi at the intake would give best flow but with lots of bubbles...

Problem with my Venturi operated Drum Vac

Can't help with foam or leaking seals but the premature stoppage is from high differential pressure and high flow rate on initial start. Throttling the valve, allowing the drum to develop some negative pressure before full venturi supply usually avoids this problem. No mods needed.

What are these wires that are connecting powerlines?

I would like to add that this is called a grounded Y system. The neutral carries any imbalance current. The size of the conductors and direct connections to lighting indicates low voltage (240 volts to ground, 400 volts 3 phase) system. Ground conductor is separate from neutral because 1...

    I Don't Understand Transformers/How to Apply Them

I would like to state that a transformer is an AC device that basically operates as 1. An AC voltage converter 2. A phase inverter 3. An isolation device separating high and low voltage controls 4. A component in resonant systems. AC voltage regulators, radio frequency amps, Tesla coils ect...

Graduate Air conditioner without heat output - Is it possible?

Systems like this do exist in industry, where the heat generated is used in other possesses, or heat is stored with water, lithium bromide, or ammonia. Also in staged systems to fractionally improve efficiency or extend temperature differential. The downside is high cost, increased maintenence...

Graduate Is the Frequency of Current Noise Voltage Dependent?

My reminising. It also reminded me of the time I used an aluminized space blanket to create electrotatic sub sonic sound and had this noise showing up on our other equipment. Hate seeing a question just hang there. Thanks

Graduate Is the Frequency of Current Noise Voltage Dependent?

Your plot looks similar to white noise generation in some circuits i have played with. These made lower frequency, falling rocks or rain, audio noise at voltages near a threshold and as voltage (and subsiquent current) were increased, the frequencey would increase but reduce in amplitude. But...

Noninverting op amp doesn't work on a highly resistive load

I am seeing many attempts to help answer a question that is simply bait. The circuit given was from the application data without substantial detail. And how is the output being used,, a "rad" meter?, a programable electrostatic device at a few hundred volts?, a smoke detector than uses a...

    Undergrad Understanding the Barkhausen–Kurz tube

As the electron approaches the plate an opposite (+) charge is induced but not enough to counter the bias(-). So this shows up as a shift in grid to plate voltage , the electron is repelled but slightly after (remember the electron has mass). This change happens at near the speed of light...
