Starting a Physics Club, need ideas

Haha, I'm thinking about starting a physics club at my high school! :!) But before I can do so, I want to make a list of activities we can do that is fun, easy, and physics related  So far, I've gotten ideas of catapults and potato guns  (Maybe light saber fights...

Was Physics Misrepresented in the Movie Apollo 13?

"* Factual errors: When Jim Lovell is standing in his garden looking at the moon (one eye closed) he covers and uncovers the moon (from his perspective) with his thumb. Since the moon was the only light source in this situation, the shadow of his thumb would have to be shading his eye. But the...

Is Light a Wave or a Particle in Spacetime?

I've heard of "dark matters" and "dark energy" in some articles that I can not remember the name of at the moment. Do these "dark matters" and "dark energy" explain what ether is?

Is Light a Wave or a Particle in Spacetime?

Hi I actually happen to have two questions and hope someone can help me out :) 1) Light as been established as waves, but how is light a wave? Many of the waves I have seen is of a sineoid shape. How do people know that light is in that form? 2) What does light travel in? Soundwaves travel...

Is the Universe Expanding and What Does This Mean for the Future?

My friends and I just came across a discussion of the expansion of the universe. I am new to this subject and thus have limited background knowledge to this and would like to have a few questions clarified by the professionals here :) Is the universe expanding? I believe my friend stated...

Light Barrier: Breaking the Speed of Light?

Hi, just got into the topic of relativity and got curious. Is it possible to break the light barrier similiarly to the sound barrier? I have just found an article that someone had done it. http://www.lastek.com.au/light.htm What are your views on this?

Who is More Important for Physics: Newton or Einstein?

I think Newton, since Einstein's physics more or less follows the path that Newton laid down.

How do satellites stay in orbit?

To chaos': So is it centripetal or free fall? :p

How do satellites stay in orbit?

To selfadjoint: my perspective of inertia is the tendency to remain in motion and can include a straight line. To chroot: Sorry if this upsets you, this is actually TAKS review. Some state standardized kinda thing and I totally agree with you how this question was poorly stated.

How do satellites stay in orbit? Free fall or centripetal?

Then in this case, the only force acting on it is gravity which can cause freefall and/or centripetal force right? Since the Earth is the source of gravity AND the center? Then wouldn't free fall and centripetal be the same thing: gravity?
