I Mainstream interpretation of Newton's bucket argument?

I found this one a bit interesting. I asked ChatGPT "Do physicists still think that the bucket experiment reveals anything about the nature of space?" and it said: "Modern physicists generally do not interpret Newton's bucket experiment as revealing anything about the nature of space itself...

I Mainstream interpretation of Newton's bucket argument?

If I were to adopt the same manner of discussion you've been using on me on you (and I'm including remarks I saw via email notification but that you've since edited to be calmer and nicer here), approximately how fast would my account get disabled?

I Mainstream interpretation of Newton's bucket argument?

That'd be great if he'd comment. Did you agree with his take on the issue?

I Mainstream interpretation of Newton's bucket argument?

If so then it seems the mainstream may have changed since this 2006 post as it seems to me that your view is consistent with AnssiH's and that he was under the impression that it wasn't the mainstream view way back then...

I Mainstream interpretation of Newton's bucket argument?

    (1) There's nothing to discuss, I'm just telling you what I meant; (2) I don't see any practical significance of this remark given your answer: But again, the point isn't to discuss your opinions it's to identify the mainstream view of this topic.

I Mainstream interpretation of Newton's bucket argument?

To be more clear, my question aims to determine the mainstream view, not to elicit personal opinions. Furthermore, while it may be a tad unconventional, by "absolute space", my original post means any of a variety of positions that infers real properties to underlying space via the bucket...

I Mainstream interpretation of Newton's bucket argument?

What is the current mainstream interpretation of Newton's bucket argument in regards to "absolute space" or similar concepts? Wikipedia asserts both that Newton's intention may either have been (1) to prove the "metaphysical" existence of something we'd call "absolute space" (i.e. some some...

What inspired a software developer to pursue a career in physics?

Hi, I'm a software developer with electrical engineering degrees. Originally I'd wanted to be a physicist, as I had a lot of fun solving classical physics problems.

So is the request that I avoid the subject a special rule crafted just for me, or are you going to adjust your general rules to reflect your actual policy?

I'd ask you to define what is a "philosophical discussion" but then that'd be a philosophical discussion. The rules actually do not prohibit philosophical discussions, they say you can delete them on a whim. Perhaps you should update the rules accordingly?
