I am a recent M.Sc. Mathematics and Data Science student in India, currently in my first semester. The course is challenging and rewarding, especially coming from a non-traditional mathematics background. Current modules include Real Analysis, Linear Algebra, Probability and Statistics, Statistical Inference, Group Theory, and several Data Science subjects with associated laboratory work.
My previous qualifications include a BCA and completion of the first year of a B.Tech in Information Engineering. I was admitted to the program primarily on the basis of my BCA degree, work experience, and prior programming background. Over the years, I have studied and passed modules involving C, Java, and Python programming, which helped me meet the entry requirements despite not holding a traditional mathematics degree.
The curriculum does not include Topology or Complex Analysis, although it covers a broad range of mathematics, statistics, and data science topics.
Alongside my degree, I am considering preparing for both the UGC NET Mathematical Sciences examination and GATE Data Science & Artificial Intelligence.
My primary goal is employment in the private sector, though I am also open to PSU opportunities. Longer term, I may consider Assistant Professorship/Lectureship through UGC NET or a PhD if circumstances require it. However, I am already 31 years old, so I am trying to make practical and efficient career decisions.
Has anyone here appeared for the UGC NET Mathematical Sciences examination in India and the GATE DS and AI?
Thanks.
