Can anybody tell me how to work out the deflection of a cantilever beam with a stepped diameter? I have looked through Roark's Formulas but can't seem to be able to do it
The diameter of the beam would vary from 5mm to 3mm and back up to 5mm.
I have attached a pic to explain.
Thanks for...
Cantilever Help!
Hi,
I'm trying to do some work on a cantilever beam with UDL and load on the end. Is there anybody who could give me a hand because I am really struggling.
Many thanks
P
hello all
followin my quest to teach myself all about beams etc iv come across this it seems straight forward well, first bit does anyway :)
is it basicaly looking at the cross section of the I-section and stating the distance from the base to the middle??
forthe second part do you jus...
Ok I was given this problem:
Problem: The deflection d of a cantilever beam of length L is given by the mechanics of materials equation d=PL^3/3EIWhere P is the force on the end of the beam and E is the modulus of elasticity, which has the same dimensions as pressure.Determine the dimensions of...
Hello, I am a PhD student in textiles. I was wondering whether anyone has any experience with cables and stuff. For my PhD, I have implemented a Cosserat model for these one dimensional structures as described by the equations of motion given in this article. Ofcourse one tries to validate their...
Cantilever help!§
heh everyone
finishing of some work on cantilevers and how the movement (when attached to strain gages) affects the circuits resistance, i used a wheatsone bridge and i need some hints for help on the right-up... or any results you could send my way would be great, thanks...
I'm an undergrad. student trying to do research. Today was my first day working with grad students and one grad student gave me something to find. We have a cantilever beam made of aluminum nitride (AlN). The only things known about the beam are the dimensions and young's modulus. He wants to...
If i have two cantilever beams with a vertical prop between the free ends as shown in diagram, how do i find the load on the prop?
I have the deflections of the beams to be:
v (top beam)= (PL^3)/(3EI)
v(bottom beam)=(5WL^3)/(48EI)-(PL^3)/(3EI)
the prop is of diameter d, and length a...

If two cantilever beams are fixed at Left Hand Side (LHS) and joined to each other by means of a prop at RHS, how do i calculate the downwards vertical deflection of the bottom beam?
The solution i need to prove is (5WL^3)/(48EI)-top deflection.
However, i always seem to get a 7 where...
If a cantilever beam is subject to forced vibration (from a shaker at fixed end), what will the effect be of placing a mass at a)nodes and b)between nodes?
I presume that as there is no displacement from the normal at the nodes, the mass will have little effect, but what about between the...

Is a well studied problem. I am a textiles engineer and am doing some work on modelling the interaction of the yarn with a brush ring (circular brush with hairs slowing the yarn down). You can easily calculate the deformation of a hair caused by a force perpendicular to the curve of the hair in...
Hi, I'm doing a project for my HS physics class. I need to build a cantilever out of craft sticks (I'm using thin bass wood sticks) that needs to be at least 12 inches long. I'm being graded on the efficiency of it by weight (amount of weight it holds on the end divided by the weight of the...
hi guys, got a lil question:
I had an experiment to do with two partners and one of 'em lost the data. So they had to redo it, but from the data they supposedly collected, I get the impression the faked the results, badly. The experiment was to bend a ruler by attaching a mass at its end...
