Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around a psychological test presented through a story about a girl who meets a man at her mother's funeral and later kills her sister. Participants are asked to speculate on her motive for the murder, exploring themes of love, loss, and psychopathy.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory
  • Debate/contested
  • Conceptual clarification

Main Points Raised

  • Some participants suggest that the girl killed her sister to see the man again, believing he would attend her sister's funeral.
  • Others argue that the story does not provide enough information to determine whether the killing was intentional or accidental.
  • A few participants propose that the girl might have thought her sister was involved with the man, leading to her motive for the murder.
  • Some speculate that the intense emotions from her mother's funeral could have influenced her actions, associating love with trauma.
  • One participant suggests that the motive could be linked to inheritance, implying that the sister's death would remove obstacles to financial gain.
  • There are questions about how one murder could define someone as a psychopath, with some arguing that psychopathy is not solely based on the number of killings.
  • Several participants express skepticism about the validity of the test itself, suggesting that framing it as a psychopathy test undermines its effectiveness.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants do not reach a consensus on the girl's motive or the implications of her actions. Multiple competing views remain, with some agreeing on certain points while others challenge those interpretations.

Contextual Notes

The discussion highlights various interpretations of the story and the psychological implications of the girl's actions, but lacks definitive conclusions or resolutions regarding the motives and the nature of psychopathy.

Woah...those lateral thinking puzzles are quite tough. Take a look at this one for example: A man is driving to work. He turns on the radio and knows that he will be going to prison. How does he know?

While a murder came across my mind, another "original" idea came forth.

The man is driving to prison because he ended up taking the wrong road to work, and learned of it from the traffic reports on the radio .

I suppose that could work also. It would take the glamour out of the story though, if the guy was just going the wrong direction .

some of those questions are just plain stupid - look at this one for example:

A man dies in a desert next to a large rock. There are no footprints in the sand, how did the man die?

Now, LOGICALLY the man just happened to die next to a large rock, and the wind blew the sand over his footsteps.

BUT NO, here is the "solution": The man is no ordinary man, but Superman and the rock is Kryptonite.

WTF lol truly stupid if you ask me.
