    Practical engineering - a great video on railroad track (rails, ties and ballast) with emphasis on the rails - jointed vs continuous(ly) welded rail, the latter being standard on mainlines.

    I love this guy (Grady Hill I think is his name Hillhouse!). My gramps was city engineer of Meadville Pa for decades, so I have a soft spot for the subject. Likely why I am a physicist.

    On my Engineering Mechanics Dynamics Book I am working on a problem that states: "A motorcycle travels along a straight road between two points at a mean speed of 30 m/s. It returns at a mean speed of 15 m/s. What is the mean speed for the round trip." The correct answer is 20 m/s. On working on this problem, is the mean speed the same as velocity?

    Speed is a magnitude (scalar), whereas velocity is.a vector with a direction. However, people may use velocity when the should be referring to speed.

    In the above problem, one would use the time weight average. Note that at 15 m/s one takes twice as long to cover the same distance as wne traveling 30 m/s
