SUMMARY

There are indeed objects that can exist between Mercury and the Sun, specifically comets that can pass inside Mercury's orbit. However, there are no large celestial bodies, such as asteroids, that maintain a stable orbit at an average distance less than that of Mercury. This confirms that while smaller objects can traverse this region, significant orbiting bodies are absent.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of celestial mechanics
  • Familiarity with orbital dynamics
  • Knowledge of cometary and asteroidal characteristics
  • Basic astronomy terminology
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the characteristics of comets and their orbits
  • Study the gravitational influences of the Sun on nearby celestial bodies
  • Explore the concept of orbital resonance and its effects on small bodies
  • Investigate the detection methods for small objects in the inner solar system
USEFUL FOR

Astronomers, astrophysicists, and space enthusiasts interested in the dynamics of the inner solar system and the behavior of small celestial objects.

Could there be objects between Mercury and the Sun? Like, say, asteroids?

Yes. Certainly comets can pass inside Mercury's orbit. But there are no large objects in orbit with an average distance less than Mercury's.
