SUMMARY

The discussion centers on identifying the best physics journals for condensed matter physics and staying updated across all branches of physics. Participants recommend utilizing the Physical Review Letters (PRL) and other Physical Review journals as foundational resources. However, they emphasize the importance of diversifying journal sources to avoid missing significant research. A key strategy mentioned is following citation trails of core papers to gain comprehensive insights into the field.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of condensed matter physics
  • Familiarity with Physical Review Letters (PRL)
  • Knowledge of citation analysis techniques
  • Awareness of various physics journals and their scopes
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the impact factors of various Physical Review journals
  • Learn about citation analysis tools like Web of Science or Scopus
  • Explore additional journals in condensed matter physics, such as Journal of Physics: Condensed Matter
  • Investigate how to effectively track citation trails in academic research
USEFUL FOR

Researchers, graduate students, and academics in physics, particularly those focusing on condensed matter physics and seeking to stay informed about the latest developments across various physics disciplines.

What is the best physics journal for condensed matter physics ?
And what is the best journal for all branchs of physics that keeps you on update ?
Thanks

There will be varying opinions, but my view is that it takes more than one journal.

What do you recommend for example ?

PRL and the other Physical Review journals that include your fields of interest are a good place to start.

But you will miss some important material if you focus on only a few journals.

Once I identify a core group of papers in a field of interest, I like to work the paper trails both ways:

Which papers are cited by the core group of papers?

Which papers cite the core group of papers?

For me, following the citation trails of a core group of papers is a much better way to be well informed than sticking to a small number of journals.
