Can galaxies really produce one new star every hour?

This from Science daily, they these galaxies are producing a star every hour, is that possible?

Here's how they're calculating:

They estimate 100 trillion stars in the 'outrageously' luminous galaxies = 10^14
Hours / year = 8760 approx. 10^4
average lifetime of a star might be 10 billion years = 10^10

So assuming it stably maintains that population, it works out: 10^10 * 10^4 = 10^14

No doubt it's possible; but since this is a new finding, you should wait a few years before believing it
