Can You Solve Graphical Vector Problems Using Only Math and Integration?

Click For Summary
SUMMARY

It is possible to solve graphical vector problems using only integration and mathematical principles without the need for graphical vector addition. The discussion emphasizes that while graphical methods may simplify certain problems, mathematical approaches can yield correct solutions through intuition and visual representation. Participants confirm that many two-dimensional motion problems can be effectively addressed using integration techniques, even if they are traditionally solved graphically.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of integration techniques in calculus
  • Familiarity with vector concepts in physics
  • Knowledge of two-dimensional motion equations
  • Basic skills in visual representation of mathematical problems
NEXT STEPS
  • Study integration methods for solving motion problems in physics
  • Explore vector decomposition techniques in two dimensions
  • Practice solving graphical vector problems using only mathematical approaches
  • Review examples of graphical versus mathematical solutions in vector analysis
USEFUL FOR

Students preparing for exams in physics, particularly those focusing on vectors and motion, as well as educators seeking alternative teaching methods for vector problem-solving.

Homework Statement

I have an exam on vectors and 2 dimensional motion today. I NEED to know if it is possible to solve any GRAPHICAL VECTOR PROBLEM using only INTEGRATION AND MATH WITHOUT ADDING VECTORS TOGETHER GRAPHICALLY. So given any word problem that is supposed to be solved using that stupid graphic method, you can also just solve with math and intuition and pictures right?? I have no frikkin clue how to do it the graphical way and i have solved tons of 2d motion problems using just math. Really hoping the prof doesn't try to make us do it graphically but if he does i am planning to get partial credit by solving it without adding vectors and integrating vectors.

Sure.
It can be more complicated in some problems.

Adding vectors graphically is really not magic.
