Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the search for an equation that links various fundamental constants in a dimensionless relationship. Participants explore different equations and concepts related to fundamental constants, including those from cosmology and theoretical physics.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Conceptual clarification, Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • One participant recalls an equation linking fundamental constants but is unable to find it, suggesting it may be a dimensionless relationship.
  • Another participant proposes the fine structure equation and the Drake equation as potential candidates for what the original poster might be looking for.
  • A different participant mentions the relationship of fundamental constants in the context of the Hawking radiation temperature equation.
  • Another suggestion includes looking at Planck natural units of measure equations as listed on Wikipedia.
  • The original poster expresses that the suggested equations do not match their memory of a specific dimensionless relationship and indicates a lack of success in finding it through online searches.
  • One participant mentions a video that discusses special constants in cosmology, suggesting it might not contain the desired equation but could be relevant.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants do not reach a consensus on the specific equation being sought, and multiple competing views and suggestions remain regarding potential candidates.

Contextual Notes

There is uncertainty regarding the exact equation being referenced, and participants acknowledge the possibility of misremembering or misidentifying the equation in question.

Who May Find This Useful

This discussion may be of interest to individuals exploring relationships between fundamental constants in physics, particularly in the context of cosmology and theoretical frameworks.

Folks,

I remember once seeing an equation that linked all the important fundamental constants - electron charge/alpha, gravitational constant, planks constant, speed of light, electron mass etc - in a dimensionless relationship. But for the life of me I cannot find it -google doesn't know everything yet. It may have the answer but it doesn't know how to get it to me.. Can anyone help?

Thanks

J.

Thanks guys, but those aren't quite what I'm looking for. I may be imagining it, it was a long time ago, but I vaguely remember from cosmology there was a relationship between the physical constants that was dimensionless. I've wikipedia'd and googled and not found it. Thanks for your help.

Probably wrong but I saw a video where he mentions the special constants and its a cosmology video might not have the equation your looking for as it seemed to be about converting the units however you might find it in one of his excellent videos.
