Good reviews about dark matter candidates?

In summary, there is no one definitive review of dark matter candidates due to the bias of authors towards their own models. However, one suggested review is "Mini-Review of Dark Matter: 2012" and another is "Particle Dark Matter Candidates and Searches." Both are available on arXiv.org.

Anyone knows about a good review of dark matter candidates?

I want to learn about that but I would like to have a good review to start, any suggestion?
Perhaps at an introductory level but if you have something advanced is more than welcomed.
Books, papers, anything.

Thanks

A good general review is somewhat elusive. Most authors are biased toward one or another model. This is entirely understandable as many papers have been published on many models. Here is one that is pretty good; http://arxiv.org/abs/1204.2373, Mini--Review of Dark Matter: 2012.

Here's a review of particle dark matter candidates and searches: http://arxiv.org/abs/arXiv:1001.0942

I have not read it and cannot vouch for it, but it's on my reading list.

1. What is dark matter and why is it important?

Dark matter is a type of matter that does not emit or absorb light, making it invisible to our current technology. It is believed to make up about 85% of the matter in the universe and plays a crucial role in the formation and evolution of galaxies.

2. What are some potential candidates for dark matter?

There are several potential candidates for dark matter, including WIMPs (weakly interacting massive particles), axions, and sterile neutrinos. These particles have been proposed based on theories and observations, but so far, there is no conclusive evidence for any of them being the true dark matter particle.

3. How do scientists determine whether a candidate is a good fit for dark matter?

Scientists use a variety of methods to test whether a candidate is a good fit for dark matter. These include particle accelerator experiments, astronomical observations, and simulations. The goal is to find a candidate that can explain the observed effects of dark matter, such as the rotation of galaxies and the bending of light.

4. Why is it important to have good reviews about dark matter candidates?

Having good reviews about dark matter candidates is crucial for advancing our understanding of the universe. It helps scientists narrow down the list of potential candidates and focus on more promising ones. Good reviews also provide evidence for the existence of dark matter and can lead to new discoveries and advancements in our understanding of the universe.

5. What challenges do scientists face in studying dark matter candidates?

One of the main challenges in studying dark matter candidates is their elusiveness. Since they do not interact with light, it is challenging to detect and study them directly. This requires innovative technologies and experiments. Another challenge is ruling out other possible explanations for the observed effects of dark matter, such as modified gravity theories. It also requires collaboration and interdisciplinary approaches to fully understand the nature of dark matter.
