The American secretary who became king: A woman's journey to royalty (cnn.com)

Peggielene Bartels works as a secretary at the Ghanaian embassy in Washington. When the previous king of her home village (her uncle) died, the village elders decided to name her king. She's still a secretary at the embassy. But now she spends a month in the village every year during her vacation. The rest of the year she calls her regent every night to keep tabs on local happenings.

Apparently there's a movie in the works, in which she'll be played by Queen Latifah!
