Homework Help Overview

The discussion revolves around analyzing a complex AC voltage represented by the equation v = 3e^j450t. Participants are exploring various aspects of this voltage waveform, including its amplitude, frequency, instantaneous voltage, and how to graph it on an Argand diagram.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Conceptual clarification, Mathematical reasoning, Problem interpretation

Approaches and Questions Raised

  • Participants discuss the voltage amplitude and its representation in terms of cosine and sine functions. There are questions regarding the calculation of instantaneous voltage at a specific time and how to properly draw the Argand diagram.

Discussion Status

Some participants have provided insights into the amplitude and frequency calculations, while others are seeking clarification on how to graph the complex voltage. There is an ongoing exploration of the necessary steps to visualize the voltage in the Argand diagram.

Contextual Notes

Participants are working within the constraints of the problem statement, which specifies the need to find various characteristics of the voltage and graph it at a particular time. There is some uncertainty regarding the interpretation of instantaneous voltage and the drawing of the Argand diagram.

Homework Statement

A complex AC voltage is given by the equation
v = 3e^j450t :
Note the use of bold v to represent the complex voltage.
For this voltage waveform, what are the values of
-volltage amplitide
-frequency
-instantaneous voltage
-graph it in a argand diagram at t=pi/1800

Homework Equations

V=Vocoswt

w=2PIf

The Attempt at a Solution

-well so far i know the voltage amplitude is 3 volts
-j is an imaginary number
-the expansion is v=3(cos450t+jsin450t)

not sure about the others

I think you mean V = 3(cos450t+jsin450t)

Which is comparable to the form V= V0(cosωt+jsinωt) where ω is the angular frequency.

For the instantaneous voltage, are they asking it for the time at t = π/1800 ?

dats right, so the frequency is 450/2pi

but how can i draw the argand diagram?

Well in V = 3(cos450t+jsin450t)
just put t= π/1800 and you will get a complex number in the form V = a+jb to draw which should be easy for you to do.
