SUMMARY

This discussion focuses on calculating the strength of fusion welds without filler materials, specifically for thin strips of stainless steel with a thickness of 0.005 inches. The user seeks resources such as handbooks or websites to aid in this calculation. A recommended resource is the document available at the Defense Technical Information Center (DTIC) which provides detailed methodologies for assessing weld strength.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of fusion welding techniques
  • Knowledge of material properties of stainless steel
  • Familiarity with weld strength calculation methods
  • Access to engineering handbooks or technical documents
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the American Welding Society (AWS) standards for weld strength calculations
  • Explore the use of finite element analysis (FEA) software for weld strength assessment
  • Study the effects of heat input on weld integrity in stainless steel
  • Review the DTIC document for specific formulas and examples related to weld strength
USEFUL FOR

Weld engineers, mechanical engineers, and materials scientists involved in the design and analysis of welded joints, particularly those working with stainless steel materials.

I need to calculate strengths of welds / welded joints.

Could you point me to a handbook or website?

I will be a bit more specific. The welds are fusion welding w/o any filler materials

and the materials to be welded are thin strips of stainless steel (thickness 5/1000 in)
