Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the request for resources and examples of hand-drawn mathematical symbols and Greek letters. Participants explore the differences between handwritten and printed symbols, particularly in the context of self-taught learning in mathematics.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Homework-related

Main Points Raised

  • One participant expresses a need for examples of hand-written math symbols, noting the lack of resources found during their search.
  • Another participant suggests that studying printed Greek can be beneficial and provides links to resources for hand-written Greek and math symbols.
  • Additional resources are shared by participants, including links to websites that may contain useful information for learning hand-written symbols.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants generally agree on the need for resources related to hand-drawn math symbols, but there is no consensus on specific examples or the best methods for learning them.

Contextual Notes

Some limitations include the potential variability in how different individuals handwrite symbols and the lack of comprehensive resources specifically focused on hand-drawn math symbols.

Who May Find This Useful

Individuals interested in improving their handwriting of mathematical symbols, particularly those who are self-taught or studying Greek letters for math purposes.

I suppose this is an unusual request (based on the lack of relevant results when I searched for it). As I'm largely self taught I find myself in a position where I have never seen many symbols I'm familiar with written by hand (vs in print or on a computer). Since there are subtle differences between how some letters are written by hand vs printed (for examples 'a'), I assume there may be similar differences between how greek letters and math symbols are hand written.

So, does anyone know of a good example of hand written math symbols? Perhaps a source of scanned images that contain a variety of symbols?
