When we say that expansion of universe is like that of balloon,
are galaxies and other objects are papers pasted on balloon (only balloon expands, paper does not) or are they like printings on balloon(printings too expand).

if it be second case, do we automatically mean that galaxies themselves and hence distance between sun and Earth are also increasing?

Would that imply that even the volume of nebula and stars are increasing?
[Or does gravity hold them together]

Yes, galaxies themselves and things such as the Sun/Earth system are moving apart from each other. However, the separation rate of something local like the Sun and Earth is fantastically small and undetectable to us.
