The discussion centers on the proper formatting for writing equations in a forum, specifically using LaTeX. Users initially express confusion over the effectiveness of the $$ and ## symbols for delineating code, noting that these formats seem to fail in preview mode but work correctly once posted. A key takeaway is that mistakes in LaTeX syntax prevent rendering, which can lead to frustration when previewing. One user confirms that the formatting issue is recognized and points to a related thread for further reference, indicating that this is a known problem within the forum's system.

Is there a new code format for writing equations here? I usually use $$ or ## to delineated code, but that doesn't seem to work anymore. Thanks.

Well let's see:

Code:
## \left[i\hbar\partial_t - H\right]\Psi = 0## $$ \left[i\hbar\partial_t - H\right]\Psi = 0$$
... comes out as: ## \left[i\hbar\partial_t - H\right]\Psi = 0## $$ \left[i\hbar\partial_t - H\right]\Psi = 0$$
... looks OK in preview, now to post so you can see:

Note: if you make a mistake in the TeX, it won't render.

Thank you, this works. The math script just wasn't working when I tried previewing it in the homework forums, but worked when I actually posted it.

To some degree, this thread is inspired by PF user erobz's thread "Why do we spend so much time learning grammar in the public school system?" That's why I made a title to this thread that paralleled the title of erobz's thread. I totally disagree with erobz. I created this thread because the curriculum of grammar at Universities is a totally distinct topic from the topic of the curriculum of grammar in public schools. I have noticed that the English grammar of many ( perhaps most)...
