Bill Moyers' Journal ends after four decades on PBS

Tonight, the last episode of Bill Moyers' Journal aired. Moyers, an ordained minister, while on his way to earn a Ph.D. in Philosophy, instead ended up working for the Kennedy, and then Johnson administrations, where he eventually rose to the position of working Chief of Staff.

I first became aware of his work when, back in the 1970s, he produced the first version of Bill Moyers Journal - a show dedicated to in-depth discussions relating to political and social issues. After ten years he left, went to CBS for some years, but later returned to PBS to do a number of series, including PBS's NOW, another quality show dedicated to social issues. After several years he left that but returned with the latest evolution of the Journal, which ended tonight. Coincidentally, the last broadcast of NOW was tonight as well.

Beginning next week, Jon Meacham and another journalist [didn't recognize the name] will fill the void on PBS, Friday evenings, with a new show called "Need to Know". But I can only hope that we have not seen the last of Moyers. His weekly insights and analysis, and his in-depth discussions with experts, have been a staple of my life for many years. He will be missed every Friday night.

I am worried that this is truly the last of Moyers. For the first time in my memory, he showed us a photo of his wife, who, it turns out, was a key player behind the scenes of his show.

Well, it may be okay, but The Need to Know doesn't have anywhere near the depth that the Journal did.
