Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around a commercial from Mathworks claiming 200 job openings, with participants exploring the implications of this announcement, including potential growth and geographic distribution of the vacancies.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • One participant notes that the claimed 200 job openings would represent a 10% growth in Mathworks' size.
  • Another participant suggests that the 200 vacancies may be worldwide, not limited to the USA, citing specific numbers from the UK and India.
  • A participant expresses uncertainty about the exact wording of the commercial, suggesting it may have indicated future hiring rather than current openings.
  • One participant expresses confidence that they would apply for a position given their qualifications in math or computer science.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants do not reach a consensus on the specifics of the job openings, including their geographic distribution and the wording of the commercial. Multiple competing views remain regarding the interpretation of the announcement.

Contextual Notes

There are limitations regarding the assumptions made about the job openings, including the geographic scope and the exact phrasing of the commercial, which remains unclear due to the participant's distraction during the broadcast.

It was quick but I think I got this right. I heard a commercial this morning in which the makers of MATLAB, Mathworks, claimed they have 200 job openings.

Wow, that would be a 10% growth in their size...

.

After a quick search of their website, possibly 200 vacancies worldwide, not in the USA?

For example there are 12 vacancies in the UK, 18 in India.

It is possible that they said "will be adding".

I was in busy traffic and only half paying attention to the radio. I am sure enough of what I heard that, given an advanced degree in math or computer science and a lack of employment, they would have my resume by morning.
