SUMMARY

The discussion focuses on calculating the marginal profit for an electronics manufacturing company producing 3000 units of personal stereos per month. The cost function is defined as C = 4000 + 9.55x, while the demand equation is px = 20,000 - x/500. The correct marginal profit at this production level is established as $18.45. Participants clarify that the derivation of the cost function is not the appropriate starting point for this calculation.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of cost functions in economics
  • Familiarity with demand equations and pricing strategies
  • Basic knowledge of marginal profit calculations
  • Ability to perform derivative calculations
NEXT STEPS
  • Study the concept of marginal profit in production economics
  • Learn how to derive cost and revenue functions
  • Explore the relationship between production levels and pricing strategies
  • Investigate the application of calculus in economic models
USEFUL FOR

Students in economics or business courses, production managers, and anyone involved in pricing strategy and profit analysis in manufacturing.

Homework Statement

An electronics manufacturing company has determined that the cost of producing x units
of its newest personal stereo is given by C = 4000 + 9.55x, and the monthly demand
equation is given by px=20,000 - x/500. Find the marginal profit for a production level of
3000 units per month.

I know the answer is $18.45 but I can't figure out how to start. Would I take the deriv of C? Surely not...
