Maximizing Efficiency: Coupling Multiple Engines for High Performance Propulsion

hello all...
imagine a high performance boat hull driven by 4 engines into 2 propellers...
2 engines are coupled to drive the port prop and the other 2 engines are coupled to drive the starboard prop
negating the mechanical complexities involved...what am I going to benefit from this?
notwithstanding the eye candy...I'm still driving a single prop with 2 identical (or very close to it) motors
