Physics Forums Members Credentials
Physics Forums badges are credentials granted by staff review — they are not earned automatically by posting a lot. When you see one of these marks next to a member's name, it means the community's moderators have verified that person's expertise or role.
- Science Advisor
- A member with a demonstrated, verified record of correct, expert-level contributions in physics, mathematics, or engineering. Nominated and reviewed by staff. Many hold advanced degrees or work as researchers, faculty, or professional engineers.
- Homework Helper
- A verified expert in guiding coursework problems. Homework Helpers follow our teaching standard: they guide you to the answer rather than handing it over.
- Education Advisor
- A verified expert in academia — admissions, graduate study, and academic careers — typically current or former faculty and researchers.
- Mentor
- A staff moderator. Mentors are chosen from the community's strongest contributors and are responsible for keeping discussions accurate, civil, and on the scientific record.
- Staff Emeritus
- A retired Mentor, recognized for past service on staff.
- Admin
- Site administration.
- Insights Author
- Author of one or more PF Insights articles — editor-reviewed tutorials and explainers, our highest-confidence content tier.
- Gold Member
- A member who financially supports Physics Forums. A supporter mark, not an expertise claim.
Credentials are revocable and reviewed over time. If you believe a credentialed member's post is incorrect, say so in the thread — visible correction is how this community works, and it is why these marks stay meaningful.
