How did you find PF?
I looked for Physics Forums on Google, and i vaguely remembered this site.
Hi I’m Peter,
I started Physics at Manchester University in the late 70’s, but didn’t complete.
Most of my working life has been in computing, over several operating systems and many languages, until i got promoted to organisational positions.

I started my Physics degree at UMIST and finished it the year that UMIST was rolled back into Manchester University. I was a mature student in my 40’s and eventually, 26 years after I first started, got my bachelors.

I have dabbled in subjects that interest me on and off since then. I have a new Interest in Quantum Physics which I was never very good at, but then that’s the challenge. With the advent of AI quick questions get at least some accurate ish answers, which is marvellous.

So, Hello!

Physics news on Phys.org
Welcome to these forums.

I started my software engineering career upon High School graduation (1971). Then majored in Math at Lowell Tech. Then 15 years later got my computer science degree at a New Hampshire college. But unlike you, I have remained in coding roles all along.

Sometimes I think that’s the better option. At least there is a sense of satisfaction then, not endless pointless meetings. 😃

:welcome:
Out of pure curiosity, what programming languages have you worked with?

Well BASIC, Z80 assembler, FORTRAN, COBOL, C, RPG 3 (I think), SCL, Application Master, then bits of Java and C++, and a very little HTML.

respect 🙏
I have to admit that I have been brainrotted by python and js and the lowest-level language I know is rust. I could never go near something like assembler, and even C++ is approaching brain-frying territory.
Maybe you could teach me some at some point :). I'll probably put out a cry for help on PF the second I have to struggle through a proper low-level language haha.

Ahh, I forgot Python.
All those languages were a long time ago, not Python of course that’s recent, so I’m sure your questions would be better answered by people who are still currently steeped in C/C++
