Hello Physics Forums community,

I'm James (JD) Longmire, and I'm excited to join this community of physics enthusiasts and professionals.

Background

I'm a Senior Systems Architect and Northrop Grumman Fellow, currently conducting independent research at the intersection of complex systems theory, information geometry, and foundational physics. My professional background spans digital engineering ecosystems, AI development, and large-scale systems integration, which has given me a unique perspective on how complex organizational structures emerge and function.

Physics Interests

My current research focuses on applying information-geometric methods to understand structural features of quantum field theory. I'm particularly interested in:

  • Logical consistency constraints in physical theories
  • Information geometry applications in quantum field theory
  • Anomaly cancellation mechanisms in the Standard Model
  • Computational approaches to foundational physics questions
  • Emergent structures in complex systems

I've been working on a computational framework that explores how certain features of the Standard Model (gauge theory structure, three generations, field equations) might emerge from logical consistency requirements rather than being empirical discoveries. The approach uses information-theoretic measures to quantify deviations from logical consistency and translates these into constraint functionals.

What I Hope to Contribute

I'm here primarily to learn from the expertise in this community and engage in rigorous physics discussions. I'm particularly interested in:

  • Getting feedback on computational approaches to QFT
  • Understanding different perspectives on foundational questions
  • Learning about areas where my systems/information theory background might offer useful insights
  • Contributing to discussions on quantum field theory, anomalies, and mathematical physics

I have deep respect for the high standards of this forum and look forward to participating in substantive physics discussions. I'm always eager to learn from others and have my ideas challenged by knowledgeable physicists.

Current Work

I've recently completed a computational implementation of logical constraint functionals for scalar and gauge field theories, with specific applications to Standard Model structure. While I'm excited about this work, I recognize that novel theoretical approaches require thorough community vetting and I'm genuinely interested in critical feedback from practicing physicists.

Beyond Physics

When not wrestling with fundamental questions, I enjoy exploring how complex systems organize themselves across different domains - from software architectures to biological networks to social organizations. There's something beautiful about how similar principles seem to operate across vastly different scales and contexts.

Looking forward to engaging with this community and contributing where I can!

Best regards,

JD Longmire

Wow - that's a pretty thorough introduction!
:welcome:
hopefully you will find what you are looking for here. Just be careful around discussing personal theories and unpublished work: PF is for mainstream science.

Welcome to Physics Forums, but do keep in mind that feedback on unpublished work is explicitly prohibited by the forum rules (https://www.physicsforums.com/threads/physics-forums-global-guidelines.414380/):
Speculative or Personal Theories:
Physics Forums is not intended as an alternative to the usual professional venues for discussion and review of new ideas, e.g. personal contacts, conferences, and peer review before publication. If you have a new theory or idea, this is not the place to look for feedback on it or help in developing it.

Hello everyone, I was advised to join this community while seeking guidance on how to navigate the academic world as an independent researcher. My name is Omar, and I'm based in Groningen The Netherlands. My formal physics education ended after high school, but I have dedicated the last several years to developing a theoretical framework from first principles. My work focuses on a topological field theory (which I call Swirl-String Theory) that models particles as knotted vortex...
