Ain't No Mountain High Enough

This week, our theme is on MOUNTAINS. Pictures must have real mountain/s as the main subject.

Contest Rules:

1. Any digital photo or digitally-scanned photo relevant to the theme will be accepted within the contest period. In case there's a gray area, or you're not sure if the picture is suitable, check with me first.

2. Please resize your digital photo to no more than 650 x 490 or 490 x 650 pixels. You may also crop your picture if you wish. But other than that, any form of picture editing or modification is not allowed. This is a photo contest, not a picture editing/special effect contest. You may add a watermark or your name/nickname to the photo for identification purposes.

3. Upload your photos to any of the photo servers such as imageshack. Then post it the relevant contest thread and link your picture using the img command. PM me if you do not know how.

4. Only ONE picture per member per contest. Once a picture is posted, it cannot be changed other than a total withdrawl by that member from that week's photo contest. Exceptions will be made for modification to comply with the rules, such as resizing.

5. At the end of the contest period, I will open a poll and every PF member can vote for the picture they like best.

6. Note that in case we have a large number of entries, I will do the polling in more than one thread. If that's the case, you can vote in each of the polling threads. The photos will be assigned in the the polling threads in the order they were submitted.

7. These pictures must be something that you took, not something taken off someone else's photo albums or taken by someone else. I have no way of checking if you did this, so we'll go by the honor system.

8. You can use a picture only once. Once it is used in a contest, it cannot be reused in another contest.

9. Please post only pictures meant for submission in this thread.

Really, I've got pictures from Yosemite, Glacier NP, North Casades NP, Mt. Rainier, Crater Lake... If the weather was clear, I could walk half a block and take a photo of Mt. Hood.

No, it was too high up! Its hard to tell because there is no person standing next to them, but the tombs were huge.

Well, I have no chance given all the entries already, but I did catch this contest theme before driving back home today, so braved the 20 degrees, snow, and gusting winds to snap this photo at the Sideling Hill Exhibit area in MD. This is a cut through the top of the mountain for I-68 to pass through. It's really neat to see the geology, but the view is a bit better if you cross over the walkway to the other side of the Interstate (the Eastbound side...the exhibit area is located on the Westbound side). I already thought I was going to blow off the mountain as it was, though, so didn't walk over to the other side today, and didn't stick around to snap a bunch of photos to choose from. There were much prettier views along the ride home, but no place to stop, and since it had already started snowing in the mountains, I wasn't going to delay my trip any longer.

If anyone is traveling that route with kids, and you know you need to make a "potty stop" anyway, it's a good place to pull off and wander around for a short time to see the exhibit area and stretch your legs before continuing on. If you pass through on a nice summer day, they also have picnic tables there.

That's near where the photo was taken, yes. I was closer to your neck of the woods than that, but didn't have enough time to swing by and take you up on your crabcake offer.

Theres an old train station over there where you can ride the trains. But I don't know if its still open anymore.

I don't know about trains. Haven't seen that. I know there were signs for a rail trail, but I assumed that was similar to the rail trails we have around here, that are hiking paths following the old train routes, but not actually with any tracks or trains running on them any more. I hadn't noticed that sign on previous trips, and if it was a better day, I'd have taken the detour to investigate. As it was, I again spent about a half hour of my drive with white knuckles trying to keep a decent stopping distance between me and the idiots on the road who don't seem to realize they should turn their lights on and slow down and keep distance between vehicles if you're driving through steep, curving mountain roads covered in snow. :grumpy:

Cool! Nope, says they don't run January through April. For good reason...Frostburg is always rather frosty this time of year (that's where I hit the worst snow...I hate that section of the interstate). They have several types of trains, including a Murder Mystery train in the evenings. That sounds really fun! I'm going to have to do that sometime. Thanks for letting me know about it.
