I Want To Go Back!

This week, the theme is on a place or location where you are longing to go back to. This must be a place that you had visited previously, not some place that you haven't been.

Please include a brief description of the location, such as where it is.

Contest Rules:

1. Any digital photo or digitally-scanned photo relevant to the theme will be accepted within the contest period. In case there's a gray area, or you're not sure if the picture is suitable, check with me first.

2. Size limitations: Your photo is only limited to the file size limitation set by PhysicsForums. However, your may want to consider reducing the size of your photo if the file size exceeds 1 Mb. If your file is being hosted elsewhere, I will have to see how it is being displayed here, and I may ask you to resize and resubmit if it causes problems.

3. Upload your photos to any of the photo servers such as imageshack or photobucket. Then post it the relevant contest thread and link your picture using the img command. PM me if you do not know how. Alternatively, you may simply upload your image file to PF, and then have the full image displayed in your post.

4. Only ONE picture per member per contest. Once a picture is posted, it cannot be changed other than a total withdrawal by that member from that week's photo contest. Exceptions will be made for modification to comply with the rules, such as resizing.

5. At the end of the contest period, I will open a poll and every PF member can vote for the picture they like best.

6. Note that in case we have a large number of entries, I will do the polling in more than one thread. If that's the case, you can vote in each of the polling threads. The photos will be assigned in the polling threads in the order they were submitted.

7. The photo of the subject must be something that you took directly, not via in intermediary medium, and not taken by someone else. Unless otherwise noted, a photo of another photo, painting, print, etc. does not qualify.

8. You can use a picture only once. Once it is used in a contest, it cannot be reused in another contest.

9. Please post only pictures meant for submission in this thread. Photos not meant for submission must not be posted in the contest thread. Posting of more than one photos by a member may result in an automatic disqualification from the week's contest.

Great theme!

The Roskilde Festival in Roskilde, Denmark, which is a large music festival.

(Photo of the Orange Scene in 2017, while Gorillaz were playing. A bit blurry, but I think the lights from the scene are pretty nice.)

I've been to the festival many times and have seen many great artists over the years like The Cure, Midnight Oil, Pixies, Bob Dylan, Black Sabbath, Nirvana, Beastie Boys, Primal Scream, The Jesus & Mary Chain, Zero 7, Garbage, Sigrid etc.

The location is Grand Isle, Louisiana, which is one of my favorite places on Earth to fish. This is an action shot of me reeling in a really big fish (20 lbs) called a black drum. I got into them really thick on my fishing trip last week, catching a half dozen in about 30 minutes. This great fishing is why I'm eager to go back. I took the picture of myself by putting the camera on a tripod on the rear seat of the boat and using the camera's automated settings. Later that day, a wave rocked the boat and the camera almost fell in, but I grabbed the tripod right before the camera hit the water. The bridge in the background goes over Caminada pass and is the last of many bridges one must cross to reach Grand Isle.

Mendocino on the California Coast. It gets better with the sound on.

This one is easy. I want to go back to cruising the Alaska's inside passage. This is Dawes Glacier at Endicott Arm.

We have so many places that we want to go back to, but one that comes to mind easily is Saach Pass, in the Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh, India. It is a mountain pass in the Pir Panjal range of the mighty Himalayas. The altitude is about 4414m.

The road to the pass

It remains open for four months in the year, while being snow covered and inaccessible for the rest of the year. Being so rugged in nature, it poses challenge to every motorist. At the same time, it offers awe-inspiring views. It also connects to the beautiful Pangi valley. We tried to cross this pass in October this year, but because of snowfall on the previous night, we had to come back from four kilometre before the pass top as the rear tyres were losing traction on an ascending hairpin bend. We have accepted the challenge of the mighty pass and hope to come back in future to conquer it.

If interested, you may read the portion of our travelogue that details on this journey (spread over several posts, links to subsequent posts are available at the end of each post). The full travelogue is available here.

This one is really tough to choose while taking into consideration both great photo technique and amazing scenes combined.
