SUMMARY

The discussion centers on finding PhD positions in astroparticle physics in mainland Europe, specifically focusing on projects related to Weakly Interacting Massive Particles (WIMPs). Key institutions mentioned include NIKHEF in Amsterdam, which conducts research on neutrino physics and the ATLAS project, and CRESST, located in Munich and Oxford. Additional suggestions include exploring projects in neutrino physics, gravitational waves, and cosmic rays for broader opportunities in the field.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of astroparticle physics concepts, particularly WIMPs
  • Familiarity with ongoing research projects like Antaris and ATLAS
  • Knowledge of institutions involved in astroparticle physics, such as NIKHEF and CRESST
  • Awareness of related fields like neutrino physics and gravitational waves
NEXT STEPS
  • Research PhD opportunities at NIKHEF, focusing on their neutrino physics projects
  • Explore CRESST's job listings for PhD positions in astroparticle physics
  • Investigate the ATLAS project at CERN for potential research collaborations
  • Look into other European institutions conducting research on cosmic rays and gravitational waves
USEFUL FOR

Undergraduate students in physics, aspiring PhD candidates in astroparticle physics, and researchers seeking collaboration opportunities in mainland Europe.

Hi guys,

I'm in the final year of my undergraduate degree and am looking for PhD positions.

I would really like to take a project related to astroparticle physics (esp. search for WIMPS), and also I would like a position in mainland Europe.

Just hoped you might be able to give an idea of some universities that would fit these criteria.

Thanks for any replies,
kop442000.

The NIKHEF in Amsterdam has a good deal of research on astroparticle physics, although they focus on neutrino physics (through a project called Antaris) and the LHC experiment (through the projct called ATLAS). Furthermore, the institute has quite an international community. http://www.nikhef.nl/en/

Another project is CRESST, http://www.cresst.de/jobs.php , which is in munich and oxford.

There's also CDMS, which is in the US.

You might also want to take a look at projects on neutrino physics, gravitational waves or cosmic rays, which are a bit more "astro".

Thanks for the reply! I will check all those things out.
