SUMMARY

The discussion centers on a graduate's desire to transition from a BA in Industrial Engineering to a field such as Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Genetics. The participant expresses uncertainty about whether they can directly enter a master's or PhD program or if a second undergraduate degree is necessary. It is established that acceptance into graduate programs depends on the specific institutions and the applicant's ability to demonstrate relevant knowledge from their undergraduate studies.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of graduate program admission requirements
  • Familiarity with the fields of Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, and Genetics
  • Knowledge of the differences between undergraduate and graduate studies
  • Awareness of academic performance metrics and their impact on admissions
NEXT STEPS
  • Research admission criteria for Mechanical Engineering graduate programs
  • Explore prerequisites for Electrical Engineering master's degrees
  • Investigate the process of transitioning from a BA to a second undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering
  • Learn about graduate programs in Genetics and their specific entry requirements
USEFUL FOR

Students considering a shift in their academic focus, particularly those with a background in Industrial Engineering looking to enter fields like Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering, as well as Genetics. This discussion is beneficial for anyone evaluating their educational path and graduate program options.

Hi, in 1 year i will graduate with a BA in Industrial engineering from a university in Peru. Unfortunately i have realized that I.E is not really for me.
If i could go back in time, i would of studied either mechanical or electrical or chemical engineering or something to do with genetics.

So after i graduate i want to study something related to any of those fields mentioned above.

i don't know if i could work myself into a master or a phd program, or if i would have to do a second undergraduate.

i would like to study in a first world country.
I will be 22 years when i graduate
i have really excellent grades (i would say i am at least in the top 5% of my colleague)

thanks!

Whether or not you can get into an ME/EE/CE graduate program will depend on the institutions you apply to and your ability to convince them that your undergraduate course of study applies to any of those fields to the necessary level.

Otherwise you'll probably need to go back through undergraduate in any of those fields.
