A tear-drop shaped cross-section for the spring wire in a potato masher could enhance usability, with the pointed edge facing downward. However, concerns arise regarding the cost and feasibility of producing such a design, as well as the adaptability of standard machinery for non-circular wire. The current design is considered optimal because the outer coils effectively trap and contain the potato, allowing for better mashing by the inner coils. A reverse design would likely push the potato outward, reducing mashing efficiency. Overall, the existing design remains favored for its functional benefits.

TL;DR
How hard or expensive might it be to draw spring wire with a non-circular cross-section?

Actually the current design is the best because the outer coil(s) trap and contain the potato for mashing by the inner coils. The reverse would simply push the potato outward w/o much mashing.

Had my central air system checked when it sortta wasn't working. I guess I hadn't replaced the filter. Guy suggested I might want to get a UV filter accessory. He said it would "kill bugs and particulates". I know UV can kill the former, not sure how he thinks it's gonna murder the latter. Now I'm finding out there's more than one type of UV filter: one for the air flow and one for the coil. He was suggesting we might get one for the air flow, but now we'll have to change the bulb...
