SUMMARY

The discussion centers on the foundational aspects of the universe as described by Quantum Field Theory (QFT). It asserts that the universe comprises quantum fields and the spacetime field, with all fields interacting. Particles are defined as energized states within these fields, categorized into fermion fields (quarks, electrons, neutrinos) that produce matter and boson fields (gluons, photons, Z and W bosons, Higgs boson) that produce forces. The summary aims to clarify these concepts for beginners in the field of physics.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of Quantum Field Theory (QFT)
  • Familiarity with particle physics terminology
  • Basic knowledge of the Standard Model of particle physics
  • Concept of fields in physics, particularly quantum fields
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the Standard Model of particle physics
  • Learn about the interactions between quantum fields
  • Explore the role of the Higgs boson in mass generation
  • Study the implications of quantum fields on cosmology
USEFUL FOR

This discussion is beneficial for physics students, educators, and anyone interested in understanding the fundamental structure of the universe through the lens of Quantum Field Theory.

TL;DR
Attempt at summary of what our universe is made of (based on Quantum field theory)
As a newbie, I'd welcome your input into this summary of mine. I want to establish some firm foundations (or as firm as possible). Seems like a good way of learning the basics...

Our universe consists of fields and nothing else, i.e. quantum fields and the spacetime field (gravity).
All fields interact with each other.
Particles are energised states (or quanta) in the field.

Quantum fields are:
- fermion fields: quark, electron and neutrino fields. These fields produce matter.
and
- boson fields: strong (gluon), electromagnetic (photon), weak (Z,W), higgs (H particle). These fields produce force.

In the above summary, what is disputed, wrong or missing?
Thanks, Ivan

When it comes to particles, I think you would be better off thinking along these line; IMO.
