Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the understanding of top quark polarization, specifically questioning how it can be considered zero and how this relates to the measurements of its daughters. The scope includes theoretical justifications and experimental methodologies used in particle physics, particularly in the context of measurements from ATLAS and CMS experiments.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Technical explanation, Debate/contested, Experimental/applied

Main Points Raised

  • One participant questions how top quark polarization can be zero and seeks justification through the observation of its daughters.
  • Another participant suggests checking the methods used to measure top-polarization-related observables in ATLAS or CMS.
  • A different participant acknowledges having reviewed the measurement methods but expresses uncertainty about how to relate these measurements theoretically.
  • One participant, unfamiliar with the topic, requests guidance on where to start, specifically asking for relevant experimental papers that explain the theoretical calculations involved.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

The discussion reflects a lack of consensus, with participants expressing different levels of understanding and inquiry regarding the theoretical and experimental aspects of top quark polarization.

Contextual Notes

Participants have not resolved the theoretical implications of the measurements or the relationship between the top quark polarization and its daughters. There are indications of missing assumptions and the need for clarity on definitions related to polarization.

How top quark polarization is zero? If we see the daughters then how can we justifies its polarization

Have you checked how we measure the top-polarization-related observables in ATLAS or CMS?

yes i did so but its a only method of measuring it with formualas how can we relate these things theoretically

I don't know this topic, but if you could give me a place to start... Is there a particular experimental paper where you want to understand the theory of the calculations?
