I am a recent M.Sc. Mathematics and Data Science student in India, currently in my first semester. The course is challenging and rewarding, especially coming from a non-traditional mathematics background. Current modules include Real Analysis, Linear Algebra, Probability and Statistics, Statistical Inference, Group Theory, and several Data Science subjects with associated laboratory work.

My previous qualifications include a BCA and completion of the first year of a B.Tech in Information Engineering. I was admitted to the program primarily on the basis of my BCA degree, work experience, and prior programming background. Over the years, I have studied and passed modules involving C, Java, and Python programming, which helped me meet the entry requirements despite not holding a traditional mathematics degree.

The curriculum does not include Topology or Complex Analysis, although it covers a broad range of mathematics, statistics, and data science topics.

Alongside my degree, I am considering preparing for both the UGC NET Mathematical Sciences examination and GATE Data Science & Artificial Intelligence.

My primary goal is employment in the private sector, though I am also open to PSU opportunities. Longer term, I may consider Assistant Professorship/Lectureship through UGC NET or a PhD if circumstances require it. However, I am already 31 years old, so I am trying to make practical and efficient career decisions.

Has anyone here appeared for the UGC NET Mathematical Sciences examination in India and the GATE DS and AI?

Thanks.

Are there practice exams for those tests? If so, how have you been doing on them?

Yes there are practice examinations and very specific literature such as PY (past year) question books, entire books for content. I have only attempted some questions so far and done reasonably well on them but other areas/topics I have not yet studied much.

https://github.com/GATEOverflow/GO-PDFs/releases - is extremely precise providing automated scanned pdf question banks for every topic based on keywords - free.

And am going to purchase a book for GATE DS and AI or the NET MS exam next month. GATE NET mathematical sciences is tougher, while NET Computational sciences is reportedly more surface level but very vast and broad. Two of the colleagues I am in contact with in our M.S.c are giving both respectively.

GATE DS and AI is considering deeper for engineering and more focused on core, smaller AI, and data science subjects but tougher questions than UGC NET computational sciences paper (that covers far broader topics - broad but shallow in a sense vs deep but thinner/less spread out).

Whereas the UGC NET Mathematical sciences has negative marking and is possibly most difficult or esoteric for now.

If I find UGC NET mathematical impossible:

I can choose between UGC NET Mathematical sciences and UGC Net UGC NET Computer Science and Applications.

While GATE DA and AI should possibly remain.

Try asking at reddit.com/r/developersindia or /r/indian_academia or /r/GATEtard, as these communities will have more Indian users with relevant experience or knowledge.
