SUMMARY

The integrated luminosity in particle detectors is directly influenced by the triggers that are operational during data collection periods. If certain triggers are not active, the reported luminosity may not accurately reflect the data's quality or completeness. It is essential to consider the specific triggers in use when evaluating integrated luminosity, as they determine the conditions under which data is collected.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of integrated luminosity in particle physics
  • Familiarity with trigger systems in particle detectors
  • Knowledge of data collection methodologies in high-energy physics
  • Basic concepts of luminosity measurement and reporting
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the role of triggers in data collection for particle physics experiments
  • Explore methods for calculating integrated luminosity in the presence of varying trigger conditions
  • Learn about the impact of trigger efficiency on data quality and analysis
  • Investigate case studies of luminosity reporting discrepancies due to trigger inactivity
USEFUL FOR

Particle physicists, data analysts in high-energy physics, and researchers involved in luminosity measurement and trigger system optimization.

I was wondering whether the integrated luminosity depends on the triggers that were running.
Thing is that for several time periods, some triggers in the detector may not be running. Wouldn't that affect the luminosity of the data?

Normally the luminosity is reported for the triggers used.
