Wanted: good book on photon radiation emission

Click For Summary

Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the search for a comprehensive book that details the physics of electromagnetic radiation, specifically focusing on the generation of photon-based radiation, such as radio waves. Participants express a desire for deeper insights beyond established theories and figures in the field.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Conceptual clarification

Main Points Raised

  • One participant expresses frustration at not finding a suitable book that explains the deeper physics behind how electromagnetic radiation generates photons, specifically in the context of radio waves.
  • Another participant clarifies that the inquiry is genuine and not rhetorical, seeking actual recommendations for texts.
  • A different participant prompts consideration of the energy of photons at radio frequencies, suggesting a potential angle for exploration.
  • The original poster acknowledges this prompt and reiterates the need for a published text that addresses these concepts more thoroughly.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants generally agree on the need for a deeper understanding of the topic, but there is no consensus on specific texts or resources that meet these criteria.

Contextual Notes

The discussion highlights a gap in available literature that adequately covers the physics of photon radiation emission, indicating potential limitations in current educational resources.

I own and have read numerous books about quantum electrodynamics and also classical EM. But sadly, I have yet to find a good book that describes how EM generates photon-based radiation. E.g. the process by which a radio wave comes into existence -- at a deeper level -- not just Maxwell, Abraham-Lorentz, Dirac, etc., but the real physics of the process.

Has anyone here come across such a book? Many thanks!

Sorry, some of you may think this is a rhetorical question. It is not. I'm actually polling to find out if anyone actually has found such a text.

Have you considered the energy of photons at radio frequencies?

Hi las3rjock, yes, absolutely. That's why I'm looking for a deeper clarification in a published text. It's not well addressed.
