SUMMARY

The reaction between ammonium chloride (NH4Cl) and sulfuric acid (H2SO4) produces ammonia (NH3), hydrogen chloride (HCl), and water (H2O). The balanced chemical equation for this reaction is NH4Cl + H2SO4 → NH3 + HCl + H2O. This reaction is characterized by the release of gases and the formation of a salt, specifically ammonium sulfate (NH4)2SO4, when further reacted with sulfuric acid.

PREREQUISITES
  • Chemical reaction balancing
  • Understanding of acid-base reactions
  • Knowledge of ammonium compounds
  • Familiarity with sulfuric acid properties
NEXT STEPS
  • Study the properties and reactions of ammonium sulfate
  • Learn about acid-base neutralization reactions
  • Explore the applications of sulfuric acid in organic chemistry
  • Investigate the safety protocols for handling strong acids
USEFUL FOR

Chemistry students, laboratory technicians, and educators seeking to understand acid-base reactions and the behavior of ammonium compounds in chemical processes.

Hey everyone. I'm finishing up a lab and a question has me stumped.

I need to determine the products if NH4Cl + H2SO4

I THINK it's going to be H2O + SO2 + some kind of salt, but I'm not sure. Any help would be appreciated :)

Thank you

Think of NH4Cl as NH3:HCl
