SUMMARY

The discussion centers around a quote attributed to Max Planck during a significant scientific meeting, likely the Solvay Conference of 1927, which included prominent figures like Albert Einstein. The quote reflects Planck's perspective on the limitations of time in scientific discourse. The conversation also touches on a metaphorical interpretation of a final gunshot, symbolizing the culmination of events leading to a critical moment. The participants seek clarity on both the exact wording of Planck's quote and the context of the meeting.

PREREQUISITES
  • Familiarity with the Solvay Conference and its historical significance in physics.
  • Understanding of Max Planck's contributions to quantum theory.
  • Knowledge of Albert Einstein's theories and their impact on modern science.
  • Basic comprehension of scientific discourse and its evolution over time.
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the Solvay Conference of 1927 and its key discussions.
  • Explore Max Planck's theories and their implications in quantum mechanics.
  • Investigate the historical context of Einstein's contributions to relativity.
  • Examine the use of metaphor in scientific literature and its effects on understanding complex theories.
USEFUL FOR

Historians, physicists, students of science, and anyone interested in the evolution of scientific thought and the interplay between notable scientists in the early 20th century.

I am trying to remember a quote I once read by Max Planck. Max Planck, Albert Einstein, and other scientists were at a meeting or convention regarding relativity or some other scientific theory. Planck said something like "As the [some scientific theory] cannot extend the time for this meeting, this meeting is adjourned."

Does anyone know of the quote I am asking about?

What is the exact quote by Max Planck?

What was the meeting?

not sure of the quote but the solvay 1927 conference was very big.

This is a famous quote by Max Planck,

They were all dead. The final gunshot was an exclamation mark to everything that had led to this point. I released my finger from the trigger. And then it was over. To make any kind of sense of it, I need to go back three years. Back to the night the pain started.
