Greg's welcome email requests that I introduce myself. If you want to get to know me, Google dscotese or "Dave Scotese". Notplato might work too, but that is mostly my bitcoin-related writings. I like to encourage research, so I'll leave it at that.
I got here by asking for the difference between "ionic bonds" and "covalent bonds". What I found is enlightening and almost (sadly) predictable. Old (subtly wrong) explanations of things tend to get defended by those for whom they have worked. Additionally, words are useful because of the commonality in meaning between the person using a word and their audience. Arguing about the "true" meaning of a word is silly, although "what it means to most people" is anti-silly. That is a subtle and stupendously important difference. I'll leave it at that because I wanted to write this on the ionic vs covalent thread.
