What Should I Do Before Enrolling in a Physics Program?

I have an engineering undergrad and a finance PhD. I've worked in finance most of my career, but would like to retire and teach physics. So, I want to enroll in a masters or PhD program next fall. In the meantime I'm working through some intermediate undergrad textbooks.

I'm doing this on my own and welcome suggestions about what to do until I enroll in a program (in addition to studying on my own).
