SUMMARY

The discussion centers on choosing a UC school for the TAG (Transfer Admission Guarantee) program, specifically between UC Davis, UC San Diego (UCSD), and UC Santa Barbara (UCSB). The user expresses a desire for a change of scenery from Southern California and notes that UCSB has a strong chemical engineering program. However, they lean towards UC Davis due to its distinct environment compared to the beach-centric lifestyles of UCSD and UCSB. The consensus is to prioritize the quality of the school over the surrounding scenery.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of the TAG (Transfer Admission Guarantee) process
  • Familiarity with UC school programs, particularly in engineering
  • Knowledge of the geographical and cultural differences between UC campuses
  • Awareness of admission criteria for UC schools
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the chemical engineering program specifics at UCSB
  • Explore the academic offerings and campus life at UC Davis
  • Investigate the admission requirements and statistics for UCSD
  • Compare the long-term career outcomes for graduates from each UC school
USEFUL FOR

Students currently in community college considering transferring to a UC school, particularly those interested in engineering programs and evaluating campus environments.

I am at community college right now doing my TAG (transfer admission guarantee) to a UC school. The problem is you only get 1 school to TAG to. I have been thinking about UC Davis, mostly because I've lived in southern california all my life and wanted a change of scenery.

The other schools I am considering are UCSD and UCSB. It looks like santa barbara has the best chemical engineering program, but it's the beach scene that I've seen all my life and I'm over it. Same thing sort of with UCSD being in so cal.

Any opinions on this?

First, I'd say go to the best school that you can get into. For four years, deal with the scenery.

Second, I'll agree, Davis looks a *lot* different than San Diego or Santa Barbara. You certainly won't have to worry about the beach there!
