a chemistry lab. What materials do I need if I'm going to be doing a metal + acid (rate of reaction) lab?

That depends on a lot of different things. What level chemistry are you taking? What's the more specific purpose of the lab? What materials do you know will be provided for you?

Be a little more specific, otherwise the only thing I can tell you for sure is lab goggles.
