What is the relationship between quantum field theory and string theory?

If string theory is proven correct, then quantum field theory should be deduced from it where quantum theory holds.
quantum field theory is always a limit of string theory*. for example, you can deduce things like scattering amplitudes of gluons and gravitons from string theory.
*probably too strong of a statement, it might be possible for some qft's to not be generalizable to string theory (in a non trivial way at least)
