Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around methods for measuring flower widths and petal sizes for research purposes, exploring both practical measurement techniques and relevant literature on the subject.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Homework-related

Main Points Raised

  • One participant suggests using a tape measure as a straightforward method for measuring flower widths and petal sizes.
  • Another participant notes that their botany book lacks information on flower sizes, focusing instead on tree classification.
  • A suggestion is made to look for books on plant taxonomy, which may include dimensions of various plant parts, including flowers.
  • Participants express interest in finding engaging literature related to the measurement of plant dimensions.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

The discussion does not reach a consensus on specific measurement techniques or recommended literature, with multiple suggestions and experiences shared.

Contextual Notes

Participants mention limitations in available resources, such as the lack of specific information in botany books and the need for more targeted literature on plant dimensions.

Who May Find This Useful

Individuals interested in botany, plant research, or those seeking methods for measuring plant dimensions may find this discussion relevant.

In what way can people get the width of flowers and sizes of petals for research ? I just wonder how that can be done, thank you

Personally, I'd recommend a tape measure, but some botany textbooks might have information on the average size of a plant.

Thank you,

My botany book doesn't contain any information on that, but only about different kinds of trees on planet and how they are classified, instead.
Any good books you have read and found them interesting on the subject ? Thanks

Books on plant taxonomy usually have information regarding dimensions of leaves, flowers and other distinguishing plant parts.

I would check your library to find taxonomy books that cover your location..
