Homework Help Overview

The discussion revolves around determining the forces acting on a stick figure athlete, specifically focusing on identifying the center of mass and external forces in various poses. The subject area pertains to physics, particularly mechanics and force analysis.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Assumption checking, Conceptual clarification

Approaches and Questions Raised

  • The original poster attempts to locate the center of mass and external forces on a stick figure representation of an athlete. They express confusion regarding the center of mass in complex poses and question the terminology related to reaction and applied forces.

Discussion Status

Some participants have provided feedback on the accuracy of the forces depicted, with one noting the importance of the gravity force acting through the foot of a stationary figure. There is an acknowledgment of the original poster's efforts, and suggestions for improving clarity in their drawings have been made.

Contextual Notes

The original poster mentions that images of the stick figures are pending approval, which may affect the feedback received. There is also a reference to the unique poses of Shaolin monks, which may introduce additional complexity in the analysis.

Did I do the forces right??

Hiya,

So what I have here are two images with stick figures on them showing the forces.

I have to locate the center of mass on the real picture, inked in red and then using the stick figure, locate all the external forces acting on the system. The system in both is just the athlete involved.

Did I do this right? I'm just a bit confused on finding the center of mass...esp in difficult poses. Also is the reaction force also called the applied force?

Thanks for the help.

Any type of suggestions are welcome, please :\

the pictures arent approved yet so we can't see them
if you coudl link them you would get afaster response

Ahhh, I see why. No wonder lol.

Here are the links:

Snatch

and

Shaolin

Thanks.

Anyone? Much apprec. if I could get a yay or nay ;P.

Yep both of those look correct. However, I would mention that if that shaolin monk is standing still like that, then the gravity force would have to be acting though his foot, otherwise he will fall over. He may have just kicked his leg up like that for a second though.

Even my center masses! Alright! That's cool. Well, Shaolin monks are nutty, they do the wildest things so it could be possible for them to just hold it there lol. Maybe if I drew the leg straight, then I could just make an up arrow and it'll be less ambiguous.
Thanks!
